Flash Site Navigation

Unused Flash 5 Site

2001

When I started ideas for redesigning this site (to what it currently is), I started out with this idea. I had seen other sites that had begun to use uncommon navigation systems. Several used a simple search field where the user typed in what they wanted to see, like “portfolio,” and if the site recognized it, it would take them there.

The flaw with that system was users not knowing what to type in, so I adapted the concept into this pull-down menu system that the viewer would use to create a sentence. I had initially wanted to do fun things where there would be jokes or tongue-in-cheek criticism for improper sentence structure.

I ended up opting for the current design instead because of maintenance. I really didn't want to make the entire site in Flash, which is what the above idea would require, if I did it “right.”
