Sagmeister Interview
Interview, Biography, and Web Design
My wonderful friend at Scene360.com, Adriana de Barros, invited me to do an interview for her site. After giving her a list of 5 designers and artists that I'd like to interview, she quickly set up an interview with New York-based designer, Stefan Sagmeister. For those that don't know him, he is a well known and publicized designer (primarily focusing on music design).
I conducted the interview over email and also created a small biography about Stefan for Scene 360. The biography design conformed to that of Scene 360's, but I was allowed free-reign on the interview page. My goal: to create a fitting design for the designer that echoes his own work, yet is distinctly different.
I drew my own handwritten type that is based on several pieces of Sagmeister's. Many of his pieces are centrally balanced, so I placed the photo dead center—offsetting it with uneven type for a near-asymmetrical feel. The background was chosen for two reasons: 1) It gives an analytical quality symbolizing the interview process (reminds me of Eadweard Muybridge's studies), and 2) It's actually an optical illusion, and Stefan has used numerous illusions in his work.
It was an altogether enjoyable experience!
"Thank you so very much, you did a beautiful job." -Stefan Sagmeister
